An Intensive Review of Pain Management on DVD ROM provides a comprehensive review of pain and pain management. This superb educational activity allows the user to earn valuable CME/CE credit while enhancing the user's ability to recognize, evaluate, and treat the patient with chronic pain. This course is intended to present the pain management specialist and other healthcare providers who treat patients in pain with an overview of the diagnosis and the comprehensive treatment of a wide range of painful disorders. This program contains 52 lectures from 11 renowned pain experts offering Category 1 CME credits for physicians and CE credits for nurses. CME/CE certificates are provided through an Internet link allowing the user to complete a posttest as well as an evaluation and print certificates directly from a computer. Individual transcripts of completed lectures are kept to allow users to print additional certificates.

Syllabus: An Intensive Review of Pain Management

This syllabus contains the slides from the 2009 Pain Review Course presented in Chicago, Illinois, in August 2009. While this syllabus is not available for credit, it is informative and captures the highlights of the course itself. For those who attended, it provides an invaluable overview of the course and a good way to help keep the content fresh in your mind; for those who weren't able to attend, the syllabus may help you decide whether you want to go ahead and purchase the DVD set for the credits you need while giving you an overview of current trends in pain management.

Method of Participation

The healthcare provider who purchases this product (DVD ROM) will be considered the Registered Owner of the Program. This activity contains 52 lectures with audio and slides. The participant should:

  1. Read the learning objectives and other CME information.
  2. Select a topic from the table of contents.
  3. Listen to the audio while viewing the slides.
  4. Take the post-test after each lecture.
  5. The participant must answer 80% of the questions correctly in order to receive credit.
  6. Complete the evaluation: Participants who complete the post-test and evaluation will be issued a certificate, which may be printed at your location. No additional certificate will be mailed. Statement of Need

Dannemiller is an organization dedicated to the presentation of postgraduate education courses for the purpose of update and review of all areas in the specialties of anesthesia and pain management. For more than a decade, Dannemiller has sponsored numerous CME activities in the area of pain management. As a result of this experience, Dannemiller has had the opportunity to recruit the experts from all of the disciplines involved in pain management. Through evaluation of the Outcomes Studies Reports of previously sponsored activities, which incorporated feedback from both attendees and experts, Dannemiller has carefully planned this CME activity to provide information that will enhance the attendee's ability to recognize, evaluate, and treat the patient with chronic pain.

Purpose

This course is intended to present the pain management specialist and other healthcare providers who treat patients in pain with an overview of the diagnosis and the comprehensive treatment of a wide range of painful disorders. Areas covered include:

Course Objectives

After attending this review course, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify painful entities, both regional and generalized, and their anatomical and pathophysiological basis for diagnosis and treatment.
  2. Develop strategies for pharmacological intervention in pain states based on sound pharmacological principles.
  3. Explain the anatomical and physiological basis of painful states and their management.
  4. Describe the place of interventional pain management procedures in pain management based on evidence-based medicine.
  5. Describe the ethical and legal requirements for undertaking pain management.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for pain medicine specialists and pain physicians preparing for certification or recertification in Pain Medicine. This activity is also intended for primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and other allied health care professionals interested in expanding their knowledge and improving their practice in pain medicine. Accreditation Statement Dannemiller is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
